South Leaside Monday Group

How It All Began:

The South Leaside Monday Group (SLMG) was founded in 1972 by a new mother seeking to establish a community based group where parents could come together, relax and enjoy much needed 'adult time'. Almost forty years later, SLMG continues to thrive and provide a social outlet for new and seasoned parents.

Our goal is to offer a comfortable, fun environment where parents can chat and enjoy a cup of coffee for an hour or so without having to tend to the needs of their little one(s).

Our Purpose:

In addition to the social aspect of the SLMG, our secondary focus is to provide interesting and educational presentations given by well-established professionals. Topics that reflect the group’s interests are chosen annually by members. They range from Infant CPR to cooking demonstrations.

We are not to be confused with a 'Mom's Group' where mothers and babies play together. This time is intended specifically for parents to learn something new, engage socially with other parents and recharge. Babies and children have fun together in nearby rooms while being cared for by dedicated, experienced and nurturing caregivers.

Our Members:

We have several membership categories in which parents can select their level of involvement. Our weekly membership consists of up to 70 full members, plus a number of weekly guests. Guests can be walk-ins who wish to learn more about SLMG, parents from other membership categories or guests of full members. It is an ever-evolving group as maternity leaves end and new babies arrive. We welcome new parents and their infants, parents and their toddlers, as well as veteran parents with children already attending school. SLMG is a great place to connect with other parents in the community, share your parenting experiences and to benefit from informative presentations, social events and other activities.
